Anhui Polytechnic University is a provincial multidisciplinary university with an engineering focus, a key institution of higher learning in Anhui Province, and a recipient of the National Central and Western Universities Basic Capacity Building Project. It is also a pilot university for national intellectual property reform and boasts one of the first national modern robotics industry colleges, a national innovation and entrepreneurship education practice base, and a national off-campus practical education base for university students. It is a key institution for the conferral of doctoral degrees in Anhui Province, a provincial university with distinctive industry characteristics, and one of the first pilot universities for outstanding engineering colleges in Anhui Province. Located in the nationally recognized open city of Wuhu, the university's history began in 1935 as the Anhui Private Neisi Senior Vocational School. It has evolved through various stages, including the Wuhu Electric Motor Manufacturing School (affiliated with the former First Ministry of Machine Building Industry), the Wuhu Machinery School, the Anhui Mechanical and Electrical College, and the Anhui Institute of Engineering Science and Technology. In 2003, it was approved as a master's degree-granting institution and renamed Anhui Polytechnic University in 2010.

The university boasts a total building area of 800,100 square meters, with equipment and equipment valued at 931 million yuan. Currently, the university has over 20,000 full-time undergraduate students, over 2,900 graduate students (including international students), and a faculty of over 1,800, including over 600 with senior professional titles. In the past three years, it has been approved for 95 national-level research projects, including those under the National Key R&D Program and key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, as well as over 450 provincial and ministerial-level research projects. It has been awarded the Anhui Provincial Natural Science Foundation Outstanding Young Scholars Program for five consecutive years. It has won first prize in the Anhui Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award for four consecutive years and second prize in the Eighth Outstanding Scientific Research Achievements Award (Humanities and Social Sciences) from the Ministry of Education.
